The cast of Super Sema includes:
- Sema – the main character and a tech-savvy superhero who uses her knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to solve problems and help others.
- MB – Sema’s younger brother, who is always eager to help his sister and join in her adventures.
- Gabby – Sema’s best friend and partner in crime, who is also interested in technology and science.
- Mama Shinda – a wise elder who serves as Sema’s mentor and guide on her journey.
- Jojo – Sema’s cousin, who is a bit of a troublemaker but always manages to come through in the end.
- Oscar – a rival of Sema’s who is always trying to one-up her and prove himself to be the better inventor.
- Binti – a curious and adventurous girl who lives in a nearby village and becomes Sema’s friend and ally.
The voices for the characters were provided by a mix of Kenyan and international actors, including Lupita Nyong’o, a Kenyan actress and filmmaker who also serves as an executive producer on the show.
Super Sema is the first African animated kid superhero series that follows the adventures of Sema, an innovative 10-year-old girl whose superpowers are fueled by STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
“Super Sema” is written by BAFTA winner Claudia Lloyd (“Charlie & Lola,” “Mr. Bean” and “Tinga Tinga Tales”) and executive produced by Nyong’o, who is a shareholder in Kukua.
